If the standards you teach to aren't in our list, write them yourself. A custom set behaves exactly like a built-in one once it exists.
1. Turn custom standards on
- Click Planbooks, then More > Standards for your planbook.
- Switch on the Custom chip.
- Save.
2. Create the set
Open the planbook, then click Standards in the main navigation. The first time it's empty — click Add Standards.
Give the set a name. If you plan to share it with the community, follow the naming convention Region, Grade, Subject — "New Jersey, 2nd Grade, Math" — so other teachers can find it. Leave the grade out when it doesn't apply: "Arizona, Algebra II".
3. Enter the standards
Each standard has two parts:
- Code — the short reference, like
3.NBT.2 - Description — the full wording
Both are searchable when you tag a lesson, so enter the description properly rather than repeating the code. Typing a word from the description is how you'll actually find it in the editor.
Click Add Another Standard for each one, then Save. You can come back and add more at any time.
4. Use them
Custom standards work exactly like built-in ones. Open a lesson with edit, type in the Standards box, and pick from the matches — see Attach standards to a plan. They appear in reporting too.
Remember to use the full editor. Quick edit has no standards field.
Sharing your set
When creating a set there's an option to share it anonymously with the PlanbookEdu community, and — if you're in a school or district group — with your group. If you've typed up a set others in your state will need, ticking that box saves someone else the same afternoon's work.
