Teachers who write custom standards can share them. There are over 600 shared sets, so before typing up your own it's worth looking.
1. Enable custom standards
Community standards arrive as custom standards, so that has to be on first.
Click Planbooks, then More > Standards for your planbook, switch on Custom, and save.
2. Search
Open the planbook and click Standards in the main navigation. There's now a Community button.
You can search by:
- Standards name — most sets follow Region, Grade, Subject, so "New Jersey, 2nd Grade, Math" or just "New Jersey" works well
- Email address of the teacher who shared them, if a colleague has told you what to look for
3. Preview before you commit
Click a result's name or its preview link to read the standards it contains. Worth doing — names are written by other teachers, and a set called "3rd Grade Math" may not be the framework you're after.
4. Select it
Click Select and the set is copied to your account. It now behaves like any custom set of your own: tag lessons with it, edit it, add to it.
You get a copy, not a subscription
This is the important part. Selecting a community set copies it:
- Changes the original author makes later won't reach your version.
- Changes you make apply only to your copy, never to theirs.
So you're free to adapt a set to your district's wording without affecting anyone else — and if the original is updated, you'd need to select it again to get the newer version.
